Dr. Nasima Akhter joined as a Trustee of the Bangladesh Krishi Gobeshona Endowment Trust (BKGET) on 21st December, 2021. Dr. Nasima Akhter works as Joint Secretary at Finance Division, Ministry of Finance (MoF) of the Government of Bangladesh (GoB), having been appointed to the role in October of 2021.
Dr. Nasima had commenced her career in civil service as Assistant Commissioner & Magistrate of Barishal in 2001. Within 2001 to 2007, She had been serving as Senior Assistant Secretary, Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate in Offices of the Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka & Barishal. Subsequent to this, she also engaged in academia as a Faculty Member and Senior Assistant Secretary (Research) of the Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy from 2008 to 2010. Afterward, she offered her pioneering services to the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in her roles as Magistrate of the VAW Cell and as Divisional Head of the Women Support Program. Dr. Nasima’s diverse professional credentials saw her then take up roles as Deputy Secretary for three years from December of 2015 within the Ministry of Public Administration, then another year with the Ministry of Textile and Jute, also serving as Director of Planning and Development as well as Director of Administration wherein she also took charge of different projects in her capacity as Director over the course of 2019. Immediately prior to her current role, she had been serving as Deputy Secretary at the Finance Division between January of 2020 and October of 2021.
Dr. Nasima Akhter achieved her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Social Science from the Flinders University of South Australia in the year 2016 wherein she was also awarded the venerated Australia Leadership Awards (ALA) for her outstanding thesis work. She also completed Master of Arts in Women Studies at Australia by obtaining AusAID scholarship. For her outstanding result, she achieved Chancellor Award from Adelaide, South Australia. This was preceded by her strong background in Social Science with a Masters and Bachelors (Honours) in 1993 and 1992 from the University of Chittagong. The accolades were also accompanied by the Prime Minister’s Scholarship during her post-graduate and the University Merit Scholarship during her undergraduate studies. Dr. Nasima’s standard of excellence in academia was maintained throughout as she had attained First Divisions with Board Scholarships in both her HSC and SSC examinations.
In personal life, she is happily married with Dr. Didarul Alam, an UNICEF employ and is blessed with two boys.
